European countries in particular are shifting away from burning coal,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.economist.com\/finance-and-economics\/natural-gas-prices-are-spiking-around-the-world\/21804953\">which emits more carbon than natural gas<\/a>. LNG is seen by many as a better energy source than oil and coal in terms of carbon emissions and is therefore a step on the way to achieving carbon neutrality. This ongoing shift in the energy industry is leading\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/eu-moves-to-speed-up-energy-investments-amid-ukraine-war-rising-gas-prices\/a-60957223\">to investment in LNG storage infrastructure<\/a>, namely LNG terminals.<\/p><p>LNG terminals do more than simply store LNG. This article will look a little deeper at LNG terminals and the LNG terminal construction projects of Samsung C&amp;T\u2019s Engineering &amp; Construction Group.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-64ea3e7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"64ea3e7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<style>\/*! elementor - v3.23.0 - 05-08-2024 *\/\n.elementor-heading-title{padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1}.elementor-widget-heading .elementor-heading-title[class*=elementor-size-]>a{color:inherit;font-size:inherit;line-height:inherit}.elementor-widget-heading .elementor-heading-title.elementor-size-small{font-size:15px}.elementor-widget-heading .elementor-heading-title.elementor-size-medium{font-size:19px}.elementor-widget-heading .elementor-heading-title.elementor-size-large{font-size:29px}.elementor-widget-heading .elementor-heading-title.elementor-size-xl{font-size:39px}.elementor-widget-heading .elementor-heading-title.elementor-size-xxl{font-size:59px}<\/style><h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The critical role played by LNG terminals<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d83b0b3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d83b0b3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>LNG terminals are indispensable facilities to using liquefied natural gas. Australia, Qatar, and the United States are the world\u2019s top three LNG exporters, who have to transport their product to clients in distant countries. Also, countries that import LNG should be able to store it and make it usable. As such, LNG terminals are needed on both the exporting and importing sides.<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marineinsight.com\/ports\/how-does-lng-terminal-works\/\">LNG terminals perform four major functions<\/a>: Receiving and unloading of LNG from ships, or reception; holding it in giant concrete tanks, or storage; turning the liquefied gas back into a vapor, or regasification; and sending it on to natural gas pipelines for local consumption, or transmission.<\/p><p>Natural gas goes through two stages \u2013 liquefaction and regasification \u2013 before reaching users. But why liquefy natural gas and then vaporize it again? Natural gas is liquefied for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/energyexplained\/natural-gas\/liquefied-natural-gas.php\">the purpose of shipping and storage<\/a>. This is because the volume of natural gas in its liquid state is about 600 times smaller than in its gaseous state, so more gas can be transported and stored in relatively smaller containers.<\/p><p>Liquefied gas is gasified again before it can be transported by pipelines to natural gas-fired power plants, industrial facilities, and residential and commercial customers. The reason is that a tank lorry is necessary for LNG transportation and it is economical to use a gas pipeline to handle large amounts of it.<\/p><p>There are advantages to a company owning its own LNG terminals, the most obvious being not having to rent one from another company. So it is recommended to own an LNG terminal for stable LNG acquisition, storage, and transmission. The client is Qatar Petroleum, and the project involves the building of three LNG storage tanks, three port docking facilities, and transportation piping. For this venture, the Group will carry out the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) exclusively over a period of 57 months. It is expected to be completed in November 2025.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-58d710e elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"58d710e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<figure class=\"wp-caption\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"489\" src=\"https:\/\/news.samsungcnt.com\/upload\/2.0\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/05\/photo-1-1-1.jpg\" class=\"attachment-medium_large size-medium_large wp-image-28355\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.samsungcnt.com\/upload\/2.0\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/05\/photo-1-1-1.jpg 1100w, https:\/\/news.samsungcnt.com\/upload\/2.0\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/05\/photo-1-1-1-300x191.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.samsungcnt.com\/upload\/2.0\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/05\/photo-1-1-1-1024x652.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<figcaption class=\"widget-image-caption wp-caption-text\">In March 2021, Samsung C&amp;T and Qatar National Oil Company signed the Northfield Gas Field Expansion Package 2 LOA.<\/figcaption>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-97dbc41 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"97dbc41\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Previously, in June 2019, Samsung C&amp;T\u2019s construction division won an order for the construction of the Thi Vai LNG Terminal, the first such facility in Vietnam. The client for this order is Petrovietnam Gas Corporation, the largest natural gas company in that country.<\/p><p>When completed, the Thi Vai Terminal will supply natural gas to Vietnam\u2019s Nhon Trach Unit 3\/4 LNG gas complex thermal power plant. The total cost of this project is USD179.5 million, of which Samsung C&amp;T\u2019s stake is about 61 percent, or USD109.5 million.
