The company engages in global trading of chemicals, steel, energy, materials, and future growth drivers including those supporting sustainability.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ac2a27b elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ac2a27b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Daily life as a trader<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-78d3583 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"78d3583\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Korean drama \u201c\u2018Misaeng: Incomplete Life\u201d about an intern who struggles to adapt to work at a large trading company, was very popular in Korea. But we shouldn&#8217;t expect TV shows to show the lives of traders. Clara Kim from the Steel Division\u2019s Hot Rolled Steel Group exports wire rods from Korea to Europe, the Americas, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia. They acquire expertise through experience, information sharing within their team, and constantly remaining curious about their business. They need to communicate frequently with colleagues, supply partners, and customers. After the outbreak of COVID-19, there were a lot of logistical issues and the market was very unstable. Fortunately, I was able to suggest a new way to resolve these issues and both parties\u2019 needs were satisfied,\u201d<\/em> says Kim.<\/p><p>Even without a pandemic, problems can occur. It may be that companies cancel orders suddenly or do not pay on time. Traders need to become experts in risk management in order to negotiate these pitfalls<em>.<\/em> <em>\u201cIt\u2019s helpful to think of the worst-case scenario. I\u2019ve learned that even if a deal seems perfect, it\u2019s important to prepare alternatives to manage risks,\u201d<\/em> insists Byun.<\/p><p>All three of these Samsung C&amp;T traders remain optimistic about the future<em>. \u201cWe will keep buying and selling products. Now, we handle steel, chemicals, and concentrates. But, in the future, we might deal with different items. This is the strength of trading,\u201d<\/em> says Byun.<\/p><p><em>\u201cTrading itself has existed for a long time. And it won\u2019t disappear in the future. This is where our value comes. We are contributing to society,\u201d<\/em> reflects Kim. Kang also finds positive energy from that sense of purpose: <em>\u201cAs demand for food grows, demand for fertilizers will also increase. In a way, I\u2019m contributing to the world.
