Samsung C&T Engineering and Construction (E&C) Group has secured a $2.84 billion EPC contract for a desalination and combined cycle power plant in Qatar under a consortium with Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation. The project, expected to be completed in 2029, will supply 16% of Qatar’s electricity and 17% of its desalinated water.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Samsung C&T E&C Group has been awarded the Qatar Facility E Desalination and Combined Cycle Power Project in Doha. The project was commissioned by Kahramaa, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation, under a consortium with Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation.<\/p>

Samsung C&T will solely manage the project’s EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction), valued at $2.84 billion, which amounts to approximately 3.97 trillion KRW (when applying the exchange rate of 1,398.2 KRW).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Meeting 16% of Qatar\u2019s Energy Needs by 2029 <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The project involves the construction of a combined cycle power plant with a capacity of generating up to 2,400 MW of electricity and a large-scale desalination facility that will produce an average of 500,000 tons of water daily.<\/p>

Located in the Ras Abu Fontas area, approximately 18 kilometers southeast of Doha, Qatar’s capital, the total project cost is estimated at $3.7 billion. Upon its completion in 2029, the plant will contribute roughly 16% of Qatar’s total electricity supply and 17% of its desalinated water.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Samsung C&T has built a strong partnership and trusting relationship with the client, having successfully executed combined cycle power and desalination plants on a similar scale in the region where the facility is being built.<\/p>

Samsung C&T has been consolidating its position in the Qatari market with the largest solar power plant in the country and a KRW 2.8 trillion LNG project. There are high expectations for additional orders in the future, especially as the Qatari government plans to expand its capacity to meet the growing electricity demand.<\/p>

This new project in Qatar further solidifies Samsung C&T\u2019s position as a leading company in the global power generation industry. The E&C Group is currently executing several projects around the world, including the Fujairah F3 combined cycle power plant in the UAE<\/a> and the Tanajib combined cycle power plant in Saudi Arabia.<\/p>
