Samsung C&T FY 2022 & Q4 2022 earnings

Samsung C&T posted KRW 43.162T in revenue and KRW 2.528T in operating profit for FY 2022, driven by strengthened business fundamentals and competitiveness, despite the global economic slowdown.

Its annual performance improved on the back of the Engineering & Construction Group’s solid rate of project progress and increased new orders from domestic and overseas customers, the Trading & Investment Group’s enhanced business competitiveness, the overall strong performance of the Fashion Group’s businesses, recovering leisure demand, and the steady growth of the company’s bio subsidiary. New orders for the Engineering & Construction Group reached KRW 17T, exceeding the annual goal of KRW 16.7T.

The company set a 2023 target of KRW 40.4T in revenue and KRW 13.8T in new orders, and will continue to strive for growth based on robust profitability.

Although the global economy is expected to remain sluggish, Samsung C&T will make efforts to execute profitable projects won by the Engineering & Construction Group, while maintaining stable earnings from the Fashion Group and the company’s biopharmaceutical subsidiary.

Samsung C&T will also go on developing and realizing new businesses in the fields of biopharmaceuticals, healthcare, and green energy.

  • Operating Profit: KRW 2.528T, up KRW 1.332T (111.4%↑) from KRW 1.196T in FY 2021
Revenue and operating profit increased year-over-year due to the Engineering & Construction Group’s solid rate of project progress, the strengthened competitiveness of both the Trading & Investment Group and the Fashion Group, the recovery of the Resort Group’s leisure demand, and the steady growth of the company’s biopharmaceuticals subsidiary.

Engineering & Construction Group

  • Revenue: KRW 14.598T, up KRW 3.609T (32.8%↑) from KRW 10.989T in FY 2021
  • Operating Profit: KRW 875B, up KRW 624B (248.6%↑) from KRW 251B in FY 2021
  • New Orders: KRW 17T, exceeding upward adjusted annual target of KRW 16.7T
Revenue and operating profit grew year-over-year amid the commencement of large-scale projects in earnest and an increase in domestic and global new orders.

Trading & Investment Group

  • Revenue: KRW 20.218T, up 2.864T (16.5%↑) from KRW 17.354T in FY 2021
  • Operating Profit: KRW 397B, up 101B (34.1%↑) from KRW 296B in FY 2021
Revenue and operating profit rose year-over-year on improved global trading competency and profitability achieved via a “select and focus” business strategy.

Fashion Group

  • Revenue: KRW 2.1T, up KRW 234B (13.2%↑) from KRW 1.767T in FY 2021
  • Operating Profit: KRW 180B, up KRW 80B (80.0%↑) from KRW 100B in FY 2021
Revenue and operating profit expanded as the group enjoyed positive overall performances led by imported brands and its online business.

Resort Group

  • Revenue: KRW 3.344T, up KRW 567B (20.4%↑) from KRW 2.777T in FY 2021
  • Operating Profit: KRW 129B, up KRW 72B (126.3%↑) from KRW 57B in FY 2021
Revenue and operating profit increased year-over-year in line with the return of demand to the leisure industry.
