A career at Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction (E&C) Group does not always begin on a construction site. Across the organization, employees contribute in roles that range from investment strategy and nuclear energy business development to residential design. These diverse career paths are highlighted in Samsung C&T’s “직터뷰 (Job Interview)” video series on the Group’s official YouTube channel, where employees share firsthand insights into their roles and daily work.

For international employees working in Korea, the experience often means learning how new industries operate while adapting to a new working environment. Along the way, it also offers opportunities to collaborate across departments and gain insight into how complex projects come together.

Three employees from different teams share how they found their roles, what their work looks like behind the scenes, and what they have learned while building their careers at Samsung C&T.

Investment Review: Monica on Evaluating New Opportunities

When Monica first joined Samsung C&T’s Investment Review team three years ago, she expected the work to revolve mainly around financial analysis. Instead, she quickly discovered that evaluating investment opportunities requires understanding markets, industries, and strategic priorities all at once.

Her team focuses on identifying and assessing investment opportunities that support the Group’s long-term competitiveness. The process can involve everything from market research and valuation modeling to due diligence and negotiations with potential partners. A typical day begins by reviewing overnight financial news to understand changes in the market. Depending on the stage of a project, her work may then shift to analyzing investment targets, reviewing agreements, or preparing materials for internal decision-making.

Monica studied accounting, but she notes that the role is not limited to finance majors. Instead, she believes success depends on analytical thinking, communication skills, and the ability to approach problems strategically.

One experience that left a strong impression on her was her first business trip to India, where she met local partners and introduced Samsung C&T to potential collaborators. Seeing the company’s reputation in the market firsthand made the experience particularly memorable.

Looking back, Monica notes that she would have asked more questions during her early days in the role. Understanding the reasoning behind decisions earlier, she says, would have helped her navigate the work more quickly.

Nuclear Power Technical Sales: Lidia and the Business of Energy

Lidia joined the Nuclear Power Technical Sales team two years ago, working in a role that connects international business with the evolving nuclear energy market. Her responsibilities include supporting international contracts and analyzing nuclear market trends in regions such as Eastern Europe.

Her work focuses on both business and technical aspects of nuclear projects. “I work on international nuclear business development, supporting contracts and analyzing the nuclear market in Eastern Europe,” she explains. Because the role involves complex agreements and international stakeholders, communication plays a critical role in her day-to-day work.

With an academic background in marketing, Lidia says it helps her approach projects strategically by focusing on customer needs and business perspectives. She also notes that success in the role depends less on a specific major and more on collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Working in a global company has also shaped her perspective on international business. Collaborating with colleagues and partners from different countries allows her to learn about different cultures while contributing to shared projects. Reflecting on her early career, she says she would have invested more time learning additional languages.

“In international business, language skills can open up many opportunities.”

Residential Interior Design: Gamaleldin on Creating Living Spaces

For Gamaleldin, the most rewarding part of his work is contributing to spaces that people will eventually live in and use every day. Designing residential environments requires close collaboration across teams, and he finds the process of working together toward a shared outcome particularly meaningful.

As part of the Housing Product Design Team, Gamaleldin contributes to the interior design of Raemian residential developments. His work includes proposing interior concepts during the early design stages, reviewing architectural drawings, and ensuring that the final designs reflect the Raemian brand’s identity and quality standards.

When he first joined the company, he expected the role to focus mainly on design. In reality, the work also involves involves a much wider range of responsibilities, including researching product concepts, reviewing documentation, and coordinating with multiple teams throughout the design process. As an international employee, learning how Korea’s residential development process works—from project bidding through final construction—has been an important part of his experience. That understanding has also helped him collaborate more effectively with overseas design partners involved in related projects.

For those considering a similar path, Gamaleldin emphasizes the importance of curiosity and a willingness to learn. Each project brings different design requirements, and adapting quickly to new ideas and styles is a key part of the role.

A Range of Roles, A Common Thread

Although Monica, Lidia, and Gamaleldin work in different areas of Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction Group, their experiences reveal several common threads. Each discovered that their role involved more than they initially expected, and each points to continuous learning and collaboration with colleagues as central to their development.

Their stories reflect how careers within the Group can take shape across a wide range of functions, from investment and global energy business development to residential design. While their responsibilities differ, their experiences highlight how projects come together through contributions from many teams working behind the scenes.

For employees beginning their careers at Samsung C&T, that collaborative environment offers opportunities to learn from different disciplines while gaining a broader perspective on how complex projects are delivered.
