Raemian Landscaping Earns IDEA Recognition for Third Consecutive Year

Landscape design can shape some of the most everyday moments in a residential community: where residents pause, read, walk or simply take in the view. At two Raemian complexes in Seoul, those moments have been transformed into internationally recognized landscape experiences.

Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction (E&C) Group announced on Aug. 20 that two Raemian landscape projects received recognition at the 2026 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) in the Environments category. The Wind Library Garden at Raemian One Perla in Seoul’s Seocho District and the Blue Forest Garden at Jamsil Raemian I’Park in Songpa District were both honored, further demonstrating the design competitiveness of Raemian’s residential landscapes.

The latest recognition also marks Samsung C&T’s third consecutive year at the IDEA Design Awards and its second straight year receiving recognition specifically for landscape projects.

Where Landscape Design Becomes Part of Everyday Life

IDEA is one of North America’s most prestigious design competitions and is co-hosted by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and U.S. business weekly BusinessWeek. Together with Germany’s Red Dot Design Award and iF Design Award, it is widely regarded as one of the world’s three major design awards.

Each year, entries are evaluated across criteria including design innovation, benefit to users, social responsibility and aesthetics to identify outstanding designs across different categories.

For Samsung C&T, this year’s two recognized projects take distinctly different approaches to residential landscaping. One draws on a centuries-old Korean way of framing nature, while the other allows the landscape itself to change depending on where residents move and pause.

Wind Library Garden: Borrowing the View

At Raemian One Perla, the Wind Library Garden brings the traditional Korean landscape concept of cha-gyeong (借景) into a contemporary residential setting.

Literally referring to “borrowed scenery,” cha-gyeong is a traditional landscape and architectural technique that incorporates views beyond a space into its composition. Rather than treating the surrounding scenery as separate from the garden, the design uses it as part of the experience.

Connected to a small library within the residential complex, the Wind Library Garden was created as an outdoor book café where residents can spend time with books while enjoying the surrounding landscape. Nature and views from across the complex are drawn visually into the garden, creating a relaxed setting that extends the experience of the library outdoors.

Blue Forest Garden: A View That Changes With Every Step

The Blue Forest Garden at Jamsil Raemian I’Park takes a different approach to how residents experience their surroundings.

Centered around a streamlined tea house and viewing deck, the garden was designed to provide panoramic views from four distinct vantage points. As residents move through the space or stop at different locations, the landscape appears from a new perspective.

The result is a garden designed not around a single fixed viewpoint, but around the experience of moving through it. Different routes and places to pause offer residents changing views of the landscape throughout their time in the space.

Three Consecutive Years of IDEA Recognition

The two 2026 honors continue a three-year run of IDEA recognition for Samsung C&T.

In 2024, the public pedestrian walkway at Raemian One Bailey, known as the Raemian One Bailey Street Art Gallery, received IDEA recognition as a Featured Finalist. This was followed in 2025 by a Bronze Award for Green Cascade, another landscape feature at Raemian One Bailey.

With both Wind Library Garden and Blue Forest Garden recognized this year, Samsung C&T has now been honored by IDEA for three consecutive years. Landscape projects alone have received recognition for two years in a row, further highlighting the international recognition of Raemian’s distinctive landscape design and quality competitiveness.

Samsung C&T plans to actively apply the internationally recognized design competitiveness of Raemian landscaping to differentiated proposals for future project bids as well as housing sales and marketing.
