Samsung C&T’s Everland Launches First Korean-Bred Garden Rose in Japan

Everland’s award-winning garden rose, Perfume Everscape, becomes the first Korean-bred garden rose to enter the Japanese market. With exceptional qualities like disease resistance, cold and heat tolerance, and continuous blooming, this milestone highlights Samsung C&T Resort Group’s decade-long dedication to horticultural innovation.

Samsung C&T Resort Group has announced that Everland’s homegrown garden rose, Perfume Everscape, is now being sold in Japan. This marks the first time a Korean-developed garden rose has entered the Japanese market, following years of dedicated research and development by Everland’s horticulture team.

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of its Rose Festival this year, Everland has spent over a decade developing new rose varieties that bloom longer and carry richer fragrances. The team began its rose breeding program in 2013, focusing on creating resilient, aromatic garden roses that thrive through seasonal changes.

Award-Winning and Scientifically Recognized

Perfume Everscape first gained international attention in 2022 when it swept four awards, including the top Gold Prize, at the Gifu International Rose Competition in Japan. Judges praised its cold and heat tolerance, repeat blooming cycle, healthy growth, and soft floral scent.

In 2024, the rose received further recognition in the scientific community. A study highlighting its strong disease resistance and antioxidant properties was published in the SCIE-indexed journal Chemical and Biological Technologies in Agriculture.

From Local Innovation to International Bloom

Unlike cut roses for bouquets, garden roses are planted in soil and expected to flourish over time, which makes exporting them particularly difficult. Perfume Everscape’s strength and beauty helped it overcome those barriers.

Since 2013, Everland has conducted over 20,000 artificial pollinations to develop 40 unique rose varieties. Its dedication paid off when Perfume Everscape attracted the attention of Japan’s Kimura Planning, a company that oversees the Rosa Orientis rose brand. After winning at the Gifu competition, Everland signed an exclusive distribution agreement with the Japanese firm.

Following the completion of plant variety protection registration in Japan, the rose’s grafted branches were cultivated and multiplied. As a result, Perfume Everscape is now being distributed across the country.

A spokesperson from Kimura Planning commented, “Perfume Everscape is resistant to both disease and extreme temperatures, making it ideal even for novice gardeners. It is a strong yet elegant rose that we believe will be cherished in Japan.”

Looking Ahead to Europe and Beyond

Everland’s lead rosarian, Ha Ho-soo, shared his thoughts on the accomplishment. “The past ten years have been filled with challenges, but it’s incredibly rewarding to see our roses gain international recognition. We are now preparing to introduce them to Europe and North America.”

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of its Rose Festival, Everland is hosting “Rose Garden Royal High Tea” through June 15. Set within the iconic Rose Garden, the event features 3 million blooms across 720 varieties from around the world. Visitors can also explore the Everrose Fragrance Zone, a dedicated space showcasing all 40 of Everland’s original rose varieties, including Perfume Everscape.
