- Everland’s homegrown rose variety ‘Pink Pastry’ has won both a Bronze Medal and the coveted fragrance award at the 23rd Gifu International Rose Competition in Japan
- With its rich, layered petals and refreshing scent, Pink Pastry joins a growing list of Everland-developed roses gaining global acclaim

Everland’s latest rose variety has caught the attention of experts beyond Korea. Pink Pastry, developed by the park’s own horticulture team, recently received two honors at the Gifu International Rose Competition in Japan, winning both a Bronze Medal and a special award for fragrance.
The competition, now in its 23rd year, is one of the most recognized in the world of roses. Hosted at the World Rose Garden in Gifu Prefecture and certified by the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS), the event brings together breeders from around the globe, including leading names from the UK, France, and Germany.
A Rose That Lives Up to Its Name
Pink Pastry stands out for its unique structure and scent. With over 100 carefully arranged petals and a sweet, cooling aroma, it evokes the softness and delicacy of a pastry—hence the name.
It was developed over five years, starting in 2014, as part of Everland’s long-term rose breeding efforts. At the Gifu competition, judges evaluated around 50 global entries over a two-year period, scoring them on fragrance, disease resistance, blooming ability, and overall plant strength. Pink Pastry stood out not only visually but also for its scent, earning the Rose Hill Award given to the most fragrant bloom.
A Growing Collection
Pink Pastry is the latest in a line of award-winning rose varieties developed by Everland. Since 2021, the park has received nine international awards across four unique roses:
- Garden Everscape (2021): Silver Medal and Special Award
- Perfume Everscape (2022): Gold Medal and three Special Awards (including recognition for fragrance and continuous blooming)
- Carnival Everscape (2024): Bronze Medal
- Pink Pastry (2025): Bronze Medal and Rose Hill Award (for best fragrance)
Among these, Perfume Everscape has also been scientifically recognized for its antioxidant and anti-photoaging effects, published in an international academic journal. It recently entered the Japanese market, marking the first overseas expansion for a Korean garden rose.
See the Award-Winning Roses in Bloom
Everland began its rose breeding program in 2013 with a goal to develop domestic roses that are not only visually beautiful but also resilient to disease and changing climates. After more than 20,000 artificial cross-pollinations, the team has produced 40 unique Korean rose varieties.
Visitors will be able to see Pink Pastry and other signature blooms this fall at the Everland Rose Garden, when the roses reach peak season.
“It means a lot to receive continued recognition from experts overseas,” said Everland rose breeder Ho-soo Ha. “We will continue to share the value and beauty of Korean roses both locally and internationally.”
