Never let it be said that Juun.J is predictable in any way. For 15 years, Juun.J and its founder and creative director Jung Wook-jun have been dazzling the fashion world with creative uses of fabrics and unorthodox reinterpretations of clothing designs. This time is no different, as Juun.J unveiled its 2024 fall/winter collection in Paris last week.
The pride of Samsung C&T Fashion Group
In 2009, 2010, and 2011, Juun.J’s creator won the Samsung Fashion Design Fund (SFDF) Award three years running. Ever since then, he has been creating rich and exciting collections and presenting them in intriguing and appealing ways. Juun.J has become a globally recognized brand within Samsung C&T Fashion Group, and Jung Wook-jun was named to the position of vice president of the Fashion Group late in 2023 in recognition of his leadership and visionary qualities.
A runway in an abandoned garage
On Jan. 19, in a former Renault garage at 29 Quai de Grenelle in Paris’s 15th arrondissement, 40 models dressed in eye-popping outfits that brought together velvet and spangles, and that transcended boundaries of gender and styling, made the “city of lights” shine in Juun.J’s own unique way.
On a runway nearly 100 meters in length near the iconic Eiffel Tower, a futuristic collection of men’s and womenswear was showcased in a garage setting that captures the bygone industrial era, and where other global brands such as Martin, sacaui, Germanier, SEAN SUEN, and MIHARA YUSUHIRO have also held shows.
It drew a lot of attention from the global fashion community, including from more than 350 industry professionals, domestic and foreign press, and influencers. There were also buyers from internationally renowned retailers like Harrods UK, Printemps, Lane Crawford, SKP Beijing, I.T, Rinascente, SSENSE, and Net-a-Porter.
Eccentricities
The 2024 fall/winter Juun.J collection was given the theme “Eccentric” by its designer to highlight his unique reinterpretation of the brand’s already unconventional sensibilities from a new aesthetic perspective.
This collection pays special attention to a multi-faceted experimentation with velvet and spangles. The unique glossy fabric and the thin shiny sequins combine with diverse materials such as knits, artificial fur, and down to create a variety of styles with pants, dresses and pants, and pants and bustiers to express Juun.J’s boundary-breaking vision in a sophisticated fashion.
The collection also incorporates wool, leather, denim, fur, and spangles to show an exaggerated contrast with tailoring. It adds black, silver, and gold spangles to jackets, mini dresses, leggings, bags, and shoes, while completing a sparkling collection through knits and bubble dresses designed with foil prints.
Jung Wook-jun explained, “This collection is unusual and eccentric, yet expresses beauty and emphasizes the unpredictable but distinctive vibe of Juun.J beyond the limitations of its various elements,” adding, “After our strong growth in menswear, now that our women’s line is becoming more internationally recognized, we plan to gradually refine its look through continuous expansion of the brand, such as by adding accessories.”
