Building a safe site through proactive and transparent communication

SEOUL, Korea – May 31, 2017 – Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction Group’s (CEO Chi Hun Choi) SCL C1109 project in Hong Kong recently received the Gold Award in the Stakeholder Communications category at the 3rd Hong Kong Public Relations Awards.   

HK Public Relations Professionals’ Association has hosted the awards since 2010 to promote the importance of corporations fulfilling their social responsibilities and communicating openly with their stakeholders. This year’s awards included nine professors and corporate communications professionals as judges who presented awards to corporations and individuals who conducted business in Hong Kong in 2016. Of the eight award categories at the ceremony, Samsung C&T’s C1109 site won the Golden Award in the Stakeholder Communications category.

C1109 has always been committed to communicating openly and effectively with the local community, the client, the workers at the site, and all other stakeholders. The site discussed its affairs transparently with local stakeholders and sought their comments when needed, including hiring twenty individuals as ambassadors responsible for ensuring the safety of pedestrians and the uninterrupted flow of traffic around the site.

C1109 site has also been communicating effectively with the workers at the site by ensuring an open and transparent flow of all work-related information between the management personnel and the laborers and concentrating on building a workplace culture where safety is priority number one. As a result, the site developed a reputation as one of the most safety-conscious sites in Hong Kong.

All in all, Samsung C&T’s C1109 site in Hong Kong has received 29 different awards in safety, the environment, and various other categories. The site won the Grand Safety Award, presented by the project client MTRC’ (MTR Corporation Limited) for four consecutive years, which was awarded to recognize the best safety performance among all MTR’s projects. It also received the Considerate Contractors Site Safety Awards (CCSA) in 2015 and 2016 from Development Bureau HKSAR and is considered a leading model construction site in Hong Kong.
