This spring/summer season’s new looks combine a classic heritage feel with a refined sporty mood, introduce garment dyeing, and bring blue and pastel tones together with beige to express a greater diversity of masculine looks.
Lee Hyun-jung, design director at Samsung C&T Fashion Group’s brand Galaxy, explains: “As the stereotypes of masculinity have been broken and this shift is accelerating, we also need to change our view and approach to menswear. The brands that attract the eyes of customers are those that bring vitality and suggest unique styles by using colors, patterns and fabric that have never been used before.”
Classic + Sporty = New tailoring
In recent years with the rise of street chic, tailoring had become all but forgotten. But now it’s back, bringing with it new colors and patterns that were previously rarely seen in menswear and infusing spring/summer 2020 collections with new vitality and unique styles.
There’s a focus on bringing in a sporty mood while still retaining the feel of classic heritage. Some new tailoring styles for men who pursue an elegant look with an active lifestyle can be seen in the new season’s showcase brought out by Galaxy, which has added functionality to a sporty look.
Galaxy has launched a new casual line, SARTECH, that proudly expresses sportiness through high quality wool in line with the newly re-emerging tailored mood. SARTECH features outerwear items such as trench coats and safari jackets using a luxurious fabric with water-resistant functionality.
For lovers of the open road, Galaxy has a new GT (Gran Turismo) jacket that offers supreme comfort in motion through stretchy fabric. The jacket’s new pattern and detailing ensure improved wearability with a wide reach for comfortable steering wheel control.
Soft & sensual casual clothing
The year 2020 will see a soft and sensual sensibility in street styles. Centering on elegant casualwear that matches a contemporary man’s lifestyle, volume pants, loose-fit shirts and lightweight outerwear are in.
To showcase that look, Galaxy Lifestyle has launched its new CARDINAL line that expresses casual items with a natural and soft mood in a classy way.
Using only the finest fabrics and elaborate manufacturing, the line features simple but refined tops and pants that can be matched with casual jackets and outerwear.
Emphasizing comfort in wearability, motion, and fit, there is Galaxy Lifestyle’s new COMFORTECH series that offers young and refined items such as casual setups, lightweight blouson jackets and t-shirts made of cooling, stretchy fabric.
Garment dyeing and new combinations
The fashion-forward man needs some garment dyeing items in his collection this season. Garment dyeing is the process of adding color to fully manufactured apparel, rather than dyeing the fabric first. With its natural yet classy look and vintage tone, this process has been widely used in casualwear such as shirts, pants and sweatshirts, but now we are seeing it in jackets too.
Galaxy suggests matching a short Harrington jacket with garment-dyed pants, a round neck knit sweater, and a petite scarf, while Galaxy Lifestyle pairs garment-dyed Harrington-style blousons and sweaters in trendy colors with denims.
Meanwhile, Rogatis introduces jackets, pants, outerwear and tops that show off garment dyeing and washing effects.
Blurring the line between shirts and outerwear, MVIO has released a practical range of half-shirt, half-jacket shackets. They can be worn by themselves or as an additional layer during that time in the early spring when a day can fluctuate between hot and cold.
Soft colors and blues are the key tones
This season soft pastel tones comprise the core colors. Young men will be mixing and matching different garments of the same tones, or creating new harmonies between formal and casual wear. Pink, one of the main colors of the Millennial generation, appears in a variety of different eye-catching hues in men’s fashion, from pale rose, through coral pink to even hot pink.
The Pantone Color Institute selected classic blue as the color of the year for 2020, which has led to increased attention to the whole spectrum of shades of blue. The Samsung Fashion Institute chose aqua as its key color for this spring/summer season, and it has made a powerful appearance on the catwalk at fashion weeks in a range of marine moods.
Natural-looking beige is also in, which pairs comfortably with pastel tones and different shades of blue.
Rogatis offers a range of set-up suits, with jacket and pants that can be worn individually or as an ensemble, and also practical tops and jackets in colors from nature like khaki and beige. Italian smart casual brand Slowear has incorporated blue into its new bomber jacket, as well as knitwear and pants, while vivid blue and yellow highlights paired with neutral colors are the theme at MVIO.
In more formal wear, Galaxy presents a luxurious and classy harmony of colors by combining teal blue, its signature color, with tan and soft beige. Teal also features strongly in suits and sweaters from Galaxy’s premium line LS Series.
Galaxy Lifestyle exudes a refined and comfortable mood by using beige that is both simple and classic. At the same time, it has also heightened its sense of style by matching items in vivid, high chroma colors such as orange, blue and green.
