Samsung C&T wins bid to construct Kuala Lumpur city centre’s podium building

Samsung C&T (KL) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Samsung C&T Corporation on June 28 received the Letter of Award for the construction of a podium building for Lot L, L1 and M, Kuala Lumpur City Centre (“KLCC”) from Arah Moden Sdn Bhd, a whollyowned subsidiary of KLCC (Holdings) Sdn Bhd.

The awarded contract amount is USD 179 million (RM742 million). The works will commence on July 15, 2019 and will be completed by October 2022 (40 months of time for completion).

The Phase 1 of this iconic 6-storey podium building is part of the KLCC Development Master Plan. This Phase 1 project will comprise a shopping mall and a new gallery for PETRONAS, the national oil & gas company. The podium will be fully integrated with KLCC MRT station Line 2 which is scheduled to be completed by July 2022. The core of a future office tower will also be constructed to meet the provisions of the Railway Act 1991 (Railway Protection Zone) Regulations 1998.

The structure of the building is designed in the form of a cantilever and atypical facade. Samsung C&T had successfully completed the Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul, the world’s largest atypical building.

KLCC (Holdings) Sdn Bhd and its subsidiaries have previously awarded Samsung C&T Corporation to build Tower 2 of PETRONAS Twin Towers and Maxis Tower, all within the 100-acre KLCC Development.

Currently, it is building Star Residences, UM City, Merdeka PNB 118 and Lot 91, KLCC in Malaysia. By winning orders for this development project, we aim to further strengthen our presence in Malaysia’s construction market.
